Will Rodman, an ambitious scientist at the biotech company Gen-Sys, is dedicated to finding a cure for Alzheimer's disease. His latest experiment involves testing a genetically modified drug on a group of chimpanzees, enhancing their intelligence to human levels. Unfortunately, a female chimp, fearing for her hidden offspring, lashes out in a fit of rage and is tragically killed by security guards. Ordered by his ruthless boss Steven Jacobs to eliminate the remaining test subjects, lab technician Robert Franklin hesitates when he discovers the existence of the surviving baby chimp. Unable to carry out the cruel task, Franklin makes a bold decision to secretly hand the chimp over to Will, who takes the young ape home to raise as his own.
